About Us

WuChi by Maks was launched in 2006 from our kitchen table as a result of a Mothers love, frustration and passion to help treat her daughter’s eczema prone skin when she was a baby. She really believed she could make a difference, and she did. Using the knowledge handed down by her African heritage of using herbs to produce healing remedies, She set out creating lotions and potions and the WuChi by Maks range of skincare products was born.

Amaka wanted to create something luxurious, ethical and packed with nourishing ingredients that are good for the skin.The heavenly aromas from a heady mix of essential oils and active plant extract will make sure that your bathing ritual is a therapeutic and rewarding experience. We are passionate about our products and this is why they are handmade with you in mind

OUR NAME

WuChi ( pronounced Woo-Chi ) is derived from an Ibo word which means 'Pre heaven'. The name WuChi draws its inspiration from the literal meaning of heaven- a state of extreme happiness. We chose WuChi because we all deserve to be pampered.

We make them using only the finest and purest natural and organic ingredients sourced fairly and ethically and that are beneficial for all skin types. Each product harnesses the potency of pure natural plant extracts from herbs, plants, wild botanicals, essential oils and marine extracts known for their healing, restructuring, sensual and therapeutic properties. It is our labour of love and we want you to enjoy a home spa experience using them, and at the same time experience the goodness and benefits of the natural ingredients we have used in creating each product.

NO NASTIES

We refuse to include any harmful ingredients (we call them nasties) in our products. There are many harmful and toxic ingredients in several products on the market. We don’t just sell our products we use them too. We have never and will never test our products on animals. Our master testers have always been ourselves, family and friends. WuChi by Maks products are cruelty free.

From the beginning, we decided to only use natural organic ingredients that work as skin food to nourish, rejuvenate and look after your skin naturally. We believe nature heals so why change it. Our ingredients are sourced from suppliers who maintain fair trade principles and an ethos of raw materials that are environmentally friendly and do not damage or pollute the environment. We know where our ingredients come from and we give back by using ingredients like(Shea butter) sourced from a women’s cooperatives in Africa knowing that the money we have used in purchasing that particular ingredient is going directly to empower someone’s life. We hope you enjoy using our products as much as we enjoy making and using them.

Ethically sourced organic ingredients are used to maintain the WuChi by Maks philosophy of providing the highest quality product standards. And every care is taken to ensure that each batch is made according to our own exacting quality criteria of, high quality luxurious skincare products that are effective, gentle and kind to the skin with a simple, clean stylish packaging.
*Ingredients 
Our formula is derived from proven ingredients that have been used for thousands of years and known to be safe. We source our ingredients from suppliers who maintain fair trade principles and ethos of raw materials that are environmentally friendly that should not damage or pollute the environment. We use Organic ingredients where ever possible. We are aware of the impact harmful chemicals have on the body. Hence our products do not contain any of the following;
· No Petrochemicals
· No Parabens
· No SLS
· No GM
· No Animal extract
· No Harsh detergents
· No Mineral oil
· No Phthalates
· No Artificial fragrance
· No Nitrosamines
*Animal Testing
We have operated a strict policy never to source ingredients from suppliers who have conducted or been party to animal testing. The suppliers we use abide by the non animal testing policy rules and strict cut off dates on cruelty free cosmetics.
We only conduct test for our products on human skin. Our master testers have always been ourselves, friends and family who help us to perfect our skincare range.
We use honey in some of our soaps and beeswax for our lip balms; but we ensure all our bee products come from ethical sources that do not harm bee production. Our products are Cruelty Free.
*Recycling 
We aim to maintain an ethical environmentally friendly business with recyclable packaging using glass. If and when we use plastic we make sure it is plastic which is recyclable and biodegradable.

WHAT MAKES WuChi by Maks PRODUCTS  SPECIAL?

WuChi skincare products have been developed to suit all skin types.

  1. Our formulations are rich in active plant extract and scented with 100%pure essential oils for aroma and the therapeutic benefits it provides. We use only cold pressed exotic carrier oils and pure un-refined natural butters.
  2. Our products are developed to solve a problem, provide benefits and prevent damage done to the skin by free radicals and environmental damage.
  3. WuChi products provide hydration, nourishment, and are packed with Vitamins, Antioxidants and essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) to keep the skin supple, nourished, glowing and revitalised.
  4. Our moisturisers are packed with natural anti-aging ingredients and Antioxidants which are blended to provide unique treatment benefits to keep the skin restored and ageless.
  5. Our creams provide deep nourishment and are specially recommended for anyone with dry skin or dry patches on feet, elbows or knees.

Research shows that the skin absorbs 60-70% of what you put on it, the average woman applies over 200 chemicals on her body from using everyday cosmetics and products; and some of these absorbed chemicals are potentially harmful to the body.

  1. WuChi products give you healthy skin without the chemical overload. We prefer to use- plant oils for their nutrients and nourishing benefits instead of mineral oil.
  2. We prefer to use food grade preservatives instead of Parabens that have been linked to controversies and hormonal imbalance.
  3. Our products are unique because they are handmade by us to reach our customers as fresh as possible.
  4. Our products are concentrated and richer than commercial products; all you need is just a bit because a little goes a long way; this is simply due to the active natural ingredients our formulas contain.
  5. We believe nature heals; hence our products are free from toxic chemicals, cruelty free, do not contain harsh chemicals, mineral oils or Parabens. We use Organic ingredients where ever possible.
